thing-a-day 2010 - The yearly creative sprint, 4th edition

Ideas beget ideas...

Today I give y'all a scan from last year's TAD, which grew from a few ideas on January 1 to this by the end of February - all the ideas I had, the ideas that spurned other ideas, etc., etc. but which did not get accomplished. I have an entirely new list for this year, but not wanting to forget any ideas, nor the idea it generated, I wanted to start with the list of Ideas created during last year's TAD.

How this list grew, and how several ideas would rush to me at once, got me thinking about how ideas beget ideas and possibilities beget possibilities. Relaying this to a friend, she suggested I watch this TED talk by Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) on creativity and how ideas come forth to us and I was enchanted:

Enjoy! It's long, but well, well worth it. (At 19 minutes, perhaps could be considered a TAD?)

I absolutely love that TED talk, especially her conversation with her creative geniuses..."if you want the book to be better, then you show up and do your part. But if you don't I'm going to keep writing anyway because that's my job, and I'd like the record to reflect that I showed up for my part of the job."

funny you mentioned watching it could be a TAD... i was JUST thinking that reading everyone's (and commenting when it moves you) might may even be longer than doing my own ... not a complaint AT ALL - seriously enjoying the company although just mostly virtual.

@ ayequilt - my pleasure! it has resonated with me for months.
@ catcara - that's one of my favorite lines, too! such exasperated conviction. i also loved what Tom Waits when an idea for a song strikes him while driving. ;)
@ karizmatic - for all the creative thoughts the video brings with it, or reading other's posts, i should think it would be considered a "creative act." I'm enjoying the company, too! I forget each year how great it is to have a cadre of folks around commenting.
