TAD DAY 20

I took a break from the whirlwind of closing on the sale of our home and packing to bake banana bread.  I know it seems crazy, but I have been wanting to bake a loaf of banana bread AND I needed to use up more food anyway.

I am moving over the weekend and into next week and then I will be traveling... In other words, I will probably not be posting to TAD much, if at all.  I will continue to check in and see what's happening and I will try to make something each day, but this weary woman will be very busy for the rest of February.

TAD DAY 13

After our weekly trip to the diner, I felt very sick.  In fact I am still sick hours later.  I am so that sick I have asked for red Gatorade.  I never want Gatorade unless I am very sick.  Fortunately, inspiration to do something TADish struck early this morning, before brunch, when my daughter put on a Minnie Mouse costume and then further accessorized with wings and a wand.  The wings and wand accompany most weekend dance sessions - she is really into waltz music right now.

I took a number of photos I am happy with.  I chose this one because it looks like I messed with it in Photoshop, but I did not.  This is an "as-is" shot.

TAD DAY 12

Another foodie TAD for me today - I tried a new recipe.  I made two sausage and white bean casseroles.  (One is vegetarian with "sausage" and one is meatatarian with sausage.)  In this house, I try to please all of the people of the time.  The recipe I followed is from Real Simple. (A falsely named, but still somewhat enjoyable magazine.)

The verdict: Yummy and satisfying!

TAD DAY 09

I am so tired today, but I did some more work on my embroidered wall calendar.  Sorry for the poor picture quality.  I am too tired to exert any more effort than using Photo Booth.

TAD DAY 08

Yup... another cooking TAD.  I have never made Indian food before, but I have been all about eating Indian food lately.  I am also always a fan of warm, stewy, chickpeas. (Check out Lazy Lulu's chickpea thing.)  That said, I was recently turned onto Smitten Kitchen, an excellent food blog written by a new mom, named Deb, who cooks comforting and beautiful food in her small NYC kitchen.  Needless to say, her blog speaks to me.

When I saw that Deb had posted a recipe for Chana Masala, I decided to take a stab at it.  I guess I should have gone easy on the cayenne, like Deb did, because it was a bit too hot to enjoy.  Oh well.  The upside was that I learned about toasting cumin seeds and figured out how to "grind" them myself without a grinder or mortar and pestle.  I put them in a plastic bag, placed them on my marble cutting board, and smacked the heck out of them with a sturdy little bamboo cutting board.

TAD DAY 07

In the spirit of full disclosure, I made this on Day 06 along with my chicken cacciatore.  Superbowl Sunday promises to be a busy day full of cookie baking, child rearing, and tv watching.  In anticipation, I am writing this on Saturday night.

I am an American football fan.  I watch the Giants - as painful as it is sometimes.  I scream a lot at the tv.  I am also a Superbowl fan.  I think you can be a Superbowl fan even if you don't have a care in the world for football.  It is an excellent excuse to eat junk food and hang out with friends in front of the tv.  Additionally, it is nice to be in the know when everyone talks about the commercials on the following Monday.

Every year I make my own Superbowl t-shirt.  I have for years now.  I usually do it with whatever I have on hand.  (To be fair, after years of avid artsing and crafting I have a lot of artsing and crafting crap on hand.)  This year I drew out a stencil on acetate, cut it out with a heat tool, and used silkscreening ink, a stippling brush and the stencil to paint it on.

TAD DAY 06

I love trying new recipes and today I followed a Bon Appetit recipe for chicken cacciatore.  The recipe notes that: "The classic dish is updated by adding oven-roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions to deepen the flavors."  It is soooo yummy.  I will definitely make this dish again.  However, next time I make it, I will not forget that the pan had been in a 350 degree oven, not just on the stove.  That bare handed grab of the pan handle made me very sad, very angry, and a bit mean to my family until I was sitting down and eating.
